A number of our online learners have had difficulties accessing Google Classroom.
In the majority of cases, the problem is caused by the fact that Google Classroom will only work with the Google Chrome web browser. The following guide is intended for people who wish to access Google Classroom that cannot install the Google Chrome web browser, possibly due to lack of administrative access on their work or personal computer.
- Ensure your computer is connected to the internet
- Download a copy of Google Chrome Portable here and save it to your Desktop. The file is around 66Mb in size so may take a while to download depending on the speed of your internet connection
- Next we will unzip the file we have just downloaded. Navigate to your Desktop and double click the file GoogleChromePortable.zip - a window similar to the one should appear with a folder named GoogleChromePortable in it (FIG. 1) - drag and drop this to your desktop (FIG. 2)

You are now ready to start using Google Chrome Portable - no further installation is necessary. You can now delete the file GoogleChromePortable.zip if you wish. - Open the folder GoogleChromePortable - inside you will see a file named GoogleChromePortable.exe (FIG. 3) - double-click this file to launch Google Chrome Portable. Important: Do not move or delete any files or subfolders in the GoogleChromePortable folder or the application will not work!
Thats it, you are now ready to log in to your Lifelong Learning Google account using the credentials sent to you by your online tutor! If you need further assistance, please contact joannebrady@lifelonglearningandskills.org
